A Little Pick Me Up

Recently I went down to London town to see my best pals and have a good mooch around Pick Me Up at Somerset House (and maybe &otherstories and maybe Liberty's...)
Being a particularly grey and rainy day, there were steps like dance moves made to avoid the wave of the black cabs through the puddles but I didn't actually mind at all. It's quite sweet being tucked under an umbrella with your best friend and peeking out to navigate.

We were completely enamoured with the antique hued roses and the way Wild At Heart display their flowers by colour palette in exposed metal buckets.

Then we walked down to Covent Garden, arm in arm and over the cobbled streets until we came across the Chanel 'Mystery Bottle' sensory installation

Then it was time for Pick Me Up.

Pick Me Up is a graphic arts festival, focusing on graphic art, design and illustration.
If you haven't been before, you will find some of the best contemporary artists and designers, showcasing through their own space or with a collective or agency. There are live events, workshops, music, a bar and also a very decent little bookshop for you to pleasantly peruse for hours.

Some of the work really called to me and these I would like to share with you.
To begin, the pick of the crop 'Cat Island', a series of works by Jessica Das.
Because, you know, CATS.

Isabel Greenberg had such beautiful, detailed works on display.
These 3D papercut and printed scenes were intricate and fascinating.

Penguin we fell in love with by Billy.

Protest signs workshop by Jess Wilson.

Possibly my favourite part of the entire show, Skull Paradise. The artists had the most rad display and it was full of themes I love - skulls, spooks, halloween & punks. Most of these artists are from Leeds, and having lived there for 5 ½ years, they definitely gained points just for that.
I came home with a 'Come Join Us' print by Idiot's Pasture // Jonny Wilkinson

Brothers of the Stripe.

Animaux Circus.

Puck.

Other work for sale which I would have happily taken home.

Part of the day was spent catching up with Chew // Rabbit Portal who was showing his work with Handsome Frank.

Work by Rabbit Portal and Lesley Barnes. I love these skateboarding witches!! Lesley's working process is so distinct and produces striking results!

This bookshop was so fun, there were so many beautifully illustrated works and these were our favourites.

A thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience, Pick Me Up was full of fresh, vibrant and relevant talent which would be enough to oil the rust on any creative mind.

Did you make it to Pick Me Up this year? What did you think?
